Demographics
Borrego Springs, an unincorporated city in the county of San Diego, is a unique community surrounded by the 600,000 acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park--the largest desert state park in the nation. The average home in Borrego Springs is priced at around $340,000. Borrego Springs homes, on average, were built in 1985.

Referred to as California’s Secret Desert, Borrego Springs exudes scenic beauty. What makes this community stand out in one of the largest counties in the nation, is that it is actually one of the smallest cities. There are no big box or chain stores; only “mom-and-pop shops” known locally. According to the 2010 census, there are only about 3,429 people residing in Borrego Springs.

The 2010 census reported that of the 3,429 residents of Borrego Springs, about 80.7% are White, 0.6% are African American, 0.2% are Native American, and 0.6% are Asian. About 35.5% were people of Hispanic or Latino origin. Of the 1,571 households, 841 were married couples, 507 households were made up of individuals, 283 had children under the age of 18, and 967 of those consisted of families. The average household size was 2.18 and the median age was 56.6 years. By age, the population consists of about 153 children in the “0 to 4 “age group, 439 people in the “5 to 17” age group, 1,686 people in the “18 to 64” age group, and 1,151 people in the “65 and over” age group.

Schools
There are several great public schools in the area, for all age groups. Belonging to the Borrego Springs Unified School District is the Borrego Springs Elementary, Middle and High School. Borrego Springs schools have a smaller student population than most other schools in the county. On average, each school has a population of less than 200 students.

Lifestyle
Borrego Springs is known for its night sky. This small village prides itself in being small enough and far enough from the city lights to be able to view the stars every night, making it the perfect environment for those who love stargazing. It’s about 55 miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city life and about 50 miles away from the nearest stoplight! The village of Borrego Springs was designated as California’s first International Dark-Sky Community.

There are lots of things to do during the day as well. Despite there not being any chain stores in the area, there are two shopping centers with retail establishments that are independently owned and operated. There are several restaurants in the area ranging from casual bar food and fast food to sophisticated and fine dining. If you like playing golf, there are several golf courses in the area. Rams Hill Golf Club and The Springs at Borrego Golf Course are two of the most popular ones in the area. Whether you like exploring and hiking during the day or at night, Borrego Springs will not disappoint. For the art enthusiasts, there are several large sculptures spread throughout the Anza-Borrego State Park in Galleta Meadows. Follow a map directing you to the sculptures and take pictures of these exceptional art pieces. Take a tour of the desert or plan a camping trip and visit Coyote Canyon where you’ll see all kinds of desert plants and magnificent views.
